In-Home Newborn Photographer in Chicago

Those first days with a new baby are tender, beautiful, and often more demanding than you imagined. An in-home newborn session gives you space to stay where you are comfortable while I photograph the connection already unfolding around you—the way your baby settles into your arms, a sibling leaning close, and the quiet details of the home where this chapter begins.

I create calm, baby-led newborn photographs for Chicago families who want images that feel natural, warm, and deeply personal. There is no studio trip, no pressure for a perfectly clean apartment or house, and no need for anyone to perform. The session follows your baby’s rhythm, with time for feeding, soothing, and pauses whenever they are needed.

A calm, baby-led experience for Chicago families at home.

Parents, siblings, and pets welcome • Gentle guidance from start to finish • Optional keepsake film

A calm newborn session, right at home in Chicago

The first weeks with a new baby can feel full in every sense. Photographing your session at home means you do not need to pack a bag, navigate city traffic with a brand-new baby, or worry about whether your baby will settle in an unfamiliar place.

Instead, I help you slow the day down and make space for the moments that already feel like your family: soft window-light portraits, parent-and-baby connection, gentle sibling moments, nursery details, and the quiet in-between moments you will want to remember.

I offer light, reassuring guidance throughout, so the photographs feel polished and beautiful without looking stiff or overly posed.

No studio travel with a brand-new baby

Time for feeding, soothing, and breaks without stress

A few beautiful, light-filled spaces are all we need

A calmer experience for parents, siblings, pets, and baby

Newborn photographs that hold the feeling of home

One of the reasons I love photographing families in Chicago is that every home has its own rhythm. During a recent Wicker Park newborn session, soft window light moved through the home while new parents settled in with their baby and dog nearby. There was nothing to stage and nowhere to rush.

The beauty was already there: the quiet closeness of those postpartum days, the comfort of being at home, and the small details that make a family’s first days feel like their own.

That is the heart of an in-home newborn session. The goal is not a perfect version of the day. It is a gallery that brings you back to how this season felt: the small hands, the familiar rooms, the soft postpartum moments, the dog underfoot, and the comfort of holding everyone close at home.

Newborn photographs that still feel like your real life

The goal is not a perfectly controlled outcome. It is a gallery that brings you back to how this season felt: the small hands, the sleepy stretches, the comfort of holding everyone close, and the little details of home that will mean even more later.

"Joanna is a talented, professional, FAST photographer who captured the most beautiful, intimate, photo-journalistic photos of our family and newborn in our home. She is well worth the investment, and provided us with gorgeous images I know I'll cherish for the rest of my life!'

-Ryan C.

When to reserve your newborn session

The best time to reach out is during pregnancy. Most Chicago families inquire during the second or third trimester so I can hold space around their due-date month. Once your baby arrives, we confirm the final timing together.

If your baby is already here, still reach out. Lifestyle newborn sessions can be beautiful beyond the first week, and I will always let you know if I have room in my schedule.

Chicago In-Home Newborn Photography FAQ

Do you travel throughout Chicago for in-home newborn sessions?

Yes. I photograph a limited number of newborn sessions throughout Chicago. Share your neighborhood or ZIP code in the inquiry form, and I will confirm availability.

Do we need a perfectly clean apartment or house?

No. We only need a few pockets of good natural light. I will guide you toward the spaces that photograph best, so you do not need to prepare your whole home.

What if our baby is fussy or awake?

That is completely normal. Newborn sessions are baby-led, and there is always time for feeding, soothing, and breaks. Awake babies can make for a beautiful, personal gallery too.

Can parents, siblings, and pets be included?

Yes. Including the people and pets who make up your everyday family life is one of the most important parts of the session.

Can I add a keepsake film?

Yes. A keepsake film can be added to preserve the movement and sound of this season alongside your photographs.

Planning maternity photos too?

Many Chicago families reserve maternity and newborn sessions together so the story feels connected from the beginning. If you are considering both, the Bump-to-Baby Collection is the best next step.

For parents who want photographs that still feel like home

My approach is warm and lightly guided. I will help you with where to sit, how to hold your baby, and how to settle into the moment, but I am not chasing stiff poses or a perfectly controlled outcome.

The goal is a gallery that feels elevated and beautiful while still looking like your family.
