Keepsake Films

Some memories don’t live fully in still frames.

Your child’s voice calling for you.

The sound of laughter filling your home.

Tiny feet running across the floor.

The way your baby stretches in your arms.

A Keepsake Film holds the motion and sound of this season — the parts that photographs can’t freeze.

These short, cinematic films are created alongside your maternity, newborn, or family session, gently woven into the moments already unfolding. Nothing staged. Nothing forced. Just the feeling of your life as it is right now.

Years from now, when the noise is gone and the house feels quieter, this is what brings you back.

 Hi, I’m Joanna

I’m the photographer behind Joanna Sopel Photography.

I’m drawn to ordinary days—the ones that don’t look important until you’re past them, and you realize how much of your heart lived there.

If you want photos that feel warm, soulful, and true to your life, you’re in the right place.

 FAQ

1) Do you travel outside Arlington Heights?

Yes. I’m based in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and I regularly photograph families across Chicagoland including Northbrook, Palatine, Barrington, Oak Brook, Lake Zurich, Winnetka, Wilmette, Lake Forest, Glencoe, and Hinsdale. If you’re nearby and unsure, send a note—I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming of.

2) Do you offer in-home sessions?

Yes. In-home lifestyle newborn sessions are one of my favorites because they preserve the warmth of your real life—your light, your space, your story. I also offer in-home family sessions for families who want something intimate and nostalgic.

3) When should I book my newborn session?

The best time to reserve your newborn session is during pregnancy, so your due-date month is held on my calendar. Lifestyle newborn sessions are often photographed within the first few weeks at home, but they can be beautiful later too—especially if you want more open eyes, connection, and personality.

4) What should we wear?

You don’t need anything complicated—just soft, timeless pieces that feel like you. Neutrals, warm earth tones, gentle textures (knits/linen), and minimal patterns photograph beautifully. After booking, you’ll receive a simple styling guide so choosing outfits feels easy.

5) What if my kids don’t cooperate?

That’s completely normal—and honestly, it’s part of what makes your story yours. I work with gentle prompts and natural movement, so your session feels more like being together than “posing.” We focus on connection, not perfect smiles.

6) How long are sessions and what’s included?

Sessions are relaxed and unhurried (typically 60–90 minutes, depending on the session type). You’ll receive planning guidance, a curated online gallery with high-resolution images, and a print release, plus access to heirloom albums and prints if you’d like to turn your images into artwork.

7) When will we get our photos?

Most galleries are delivered within 2–3 weeks

If you have a specific deadline, you can tell me when you inquire and I’ll let you know what’s possible.

8) How do we book?

Start by reserving your due date. Once your spot is secured, I’ll guide you through everything step by step.
